Why do some people feel awkward with their pen pals?

There are easy going people who can write non-stop their thoughts, ideas on life and future and so on. But some people are not always in the mood or you just feel a little nervous so that they are not sure that their letter will be a telling and fetching one. When you have just started acquaintance it takes some effort, and maybe knowledge and experience, to keep the conversation going.

You are not so quick at finding the right topics for discussion because you don't know much about the person you are corresponding with. Why we don't have such problems talking to our close friends?

The communication is easy when we know people well enough to expect them to do or not to do certain things. Besides, there are always a number of events both your friends and you have behind you so you can discuss them now and then. We can foresee some of our friends' actions and their reactions are predictable for us as well. We can see when they are kidding and when we must take their words seriously. We are aware of their hobbies and aspirations and of their weak points too.

But we should learn to overcome fear and nervousness while communicating with our pen pals, the people we don't know well yet. They don't know us either. But that should be regarded as a rare chance to introduce ourselves in a new way, to draw our psychological portrait anew and let people believe in it.
