Pen pals want not only to meet each other but also to start being close friends

There is a lot of examples when it becomes possible for people who have just been pen pals start considering you to be one of their friends. Take, for instance, the following story.

There was and still is a best friend of mine, actually a man who used to be one of my foreign pen pals. We had been corresponding for a long time but in the end we decided that we could make the first step towards each other and we started friendship. And some time later our friendly relations could have become love because we felt that we get to know each other a little bit more than just pen pals or friends...

However, we have decided to not complicate the life by love! And so it was better. It was our joint decision... Now both of us have families, though we meet not so often as we used to... But we know, that we can ask each other for the help.... And we can always find support and understanding... It is true value of friendship...

In such a way we can conclude that it is possible to find a friend among pen pals.
On second thought, we should try to answer the question, what is better: to have a lot of pen pals from different countries or to have one and only true friend? On the one hand, if you have a friend you can meet him or her every day, talk with, trust and share all your secrets. But it is also important not to forget that friendship means the feeling of responsibility first of all. In such a way friendship is not right for everyone. Some people don't like any great responsibility. Instead of that they surround themselves with a great deal of varied acquaintances able to spend a vacation or to go to a party with. When you write letters to your pen pals or receive new ones from them you don't feel obliged to anything.
