It is said that many Franco-Russian marriages that found each other in foreign affairs get divorced. There is nothing surprising about it. Such marriages are often just a compromise on both sides, if not simply pro forma, fictitious. Only accurate data could prove or disprove this statement, but there is no place to get this data from.
A Frenchman would usually protect his property with a marriage contract, he has nothing to fear. A woman's future is much less clear. In the 80s, many Russian women who did not find a job abroad after they got divorced had to come back to the USSR.
In the 90s new opportunities appeared: the trade exchange with the former Soviet republics intensified. But the competition also increased, because many Russian people had come to France.
Besides, the French companies that opened their offices in the former USSR understood very soon that it is much more profitable for them to recruit and train their employees on the spot. One more factor is the economic crisis.
That is why finding a job in France is even harder that 15-20 years ago. It is quite possible that many Russian women stay with their foreign affairs husbands for financial reasons, choosing relative comfort against the unknown.
